FAQ's IMPORTANT
I tested positive for drugs, how soon can I
go back to work?
The
determination of how quickly you can go back
to work depends on the outcome of the
evaluation, testing and the clinical
interview. The DOT guidelines specify that
certain interventions are done based upon
these findings. Our goal is to address the
issues at hand according to DOT and clinical
guidelines and get you back to work as
quickly as possible. We maintain "no
conflict of interest" relationships with
many treatment and educational providers and
can find the best path for you. We can often
get you in for same day appointments.
Can I work in other areas other than my
normal job?
Often
times we can help clear an individual to
work in non-safety sensitive position if
available. We speak directly with
supervisors and designated company
officials.
Are you experienced in SAP work?
Yes, I
have over 20 years experience in conducting
evaluations and assessment. I am familiar
with the DOT, the ADA, and with employer
return to work issues.
Do you have experience working with union
members?
I am a
former AFL-CIO Delegate and organizer.
Can I see a licensed psychologist,
counselor, or psychiatrist for SAP services?
No. DOT guidelines and applicable
credentialing organizations specify that in
addition to meeting license requirements,
that professional must also have 3,000 hours
of direct chemical dependency experience as
well as additional training in DOT
regulations. Holding oneself out as a SAP
and not meeting qualifications, but
completing the training jeopardizes you and
their license to practice. Public safety is
the issue at hand and circumventing that is
unethical and an injustice to the public.
How do I know if a SAP has a complaint or is not
qualified?
The
DOT maintains a "PIE" list that is growing and
adding more names daily. Your employer should check
this list. Individuals not meeting qualifications,
exhibiting a conflict of interest with an agency, or
hanging a shingle out a as a SAP but lack the
experience are being added daily. Because public
safety is the issue, formal hearings are held when a
complaint is entered. If you encounter an individual
who has a professional license but does not have the
experience or training please contact us.
